I thoroughly enjoyed both China and Japan trips, and both tour guides Alex & Toshi were great, however I was sharing with someone who snored (the loudest snoring I have ever experienced). This really ruined the Japan trip for me as I had approx 3 /4 hours of broken sleep a night - 4 of which I had to sleep on the floor in another room. I have raised a complaint separately re this as I don't think it is fair that I had to pay nearly £80 for a single room with no compensation from G.

Assuming that they like group travel and I would only be recommending a company for them then I'd recommend G Adventures because the whole process was made fairly easy. There were some issues that I hope I'll be able to explain later on in this, but overall it was a positive experience.

I feel that G Adventures was a safe way to visit countries that have differing cultures to mine. The tour gave a snapshot of the sights and attractions of each place, local knowledge of tour guides took away the anxiety of not being able to speak the language and ensured we got the best experiences.

Travelling with great adventures is easy because you can relax as someone else is taking care of the schedule, train tickets, reservations etc. Especially in foreign cultures, having such a CEO is really helpful. Unfortunately, this kind of travelling gives a strict time table, so staying longer in a certain place during the tour is barely possible. So it depends of what is more important but in my opinion, having a local CEO who takes care of everything outweighs the strict time table.

This style of travel is hard, carrying suitcases around busy subways was not ideal for a group, or the public.

China was a horror show of carrying heavy suitcases around up and down subway stairs, sleeping in squalid conditions on an overnight train with excrement floating on the floors, sleeping in a hotel for two nights with pungent sewer smell in the bathroom that when reported was ignored or sprayed with perfume. Then being unceremoniously dumped at the airport to fly to Japan with no idea where to go and spending 90 minutes on two wrong lines. In Japan we were hit up with baggage fees if we didn't want to carry our bags on a walk. Seriously, is G Adventures that cheap as to not provide that. This trip was not on a shoestring. It was also not seamless between China and Japan. The Chinese airport was confusing and we were provided with no guidance. Just dropped at the door.

I would like to say that I really did have a good time and met some great people and we had amazing guides. However, as you will see in my survey, there are some things that I think could really be improved on. I have traveled with G Adventures two other times and have never experienced issues like we did on this trip. I am giving feedback so this trip can be improved upon.
