Trip For You
This trip is graded Activity Level 2 (Easy & Moderate). For more on our trip gradings, visit our Activity Level Guidelines page.
This is a cultural trip taking in the major archaeological sites in Greece, combining coastal zones in the Peloponnese with several mountainous areas and villages. Expect beautiful landscapes, incredible history and rich culture. There is a fair amount of minibus travel (from two to four hours per day) with sightseeing and lunch breaks along the way, and free time usually upon arrival at each day’s destination. Most of the driving is on main roads, which are fast. In some places, we follow the provincial roads, which are also sealed.
The tour is not physically demanding; however, walking is necessary at several sites, including Mystras and Delphi. At some of these sites, we walk between one and two hours, often uphill, taking uneven steps and terrain. Trainers (not sandals) are highly recommended.
Expect some early starts on departures from November through March, when many sites close at 3pm, as we want to ensure there is sufficient time to explore thoroughly.
Eating Drinking
Breakfast is included at all the hotels.
Simple buffet-style Greek breakfasts consist of bread/toast, butter, jam, fresh juice, milk, local yoghurt, eggs, honey, and coffee/tea.
Other meals are not included, and we suggest you allow approximately €175-€250 to cover them, more if you include alcoholic or expensive fruit juices with each meal.
Your group leader will assist in organising group meals at most stops, so you may benefit from better choices and good food. For lunch and dinner, we will go to different tavernas and restaurants, where we can sample typical Greek meze dishes, olives, fresh fish, vegetables and more.
Transportation
A comfortable air-conditioned bus is used throughout the trip.

Accommodation
A selection of Greek hotelsWe stay in small, family-run hotels where possible, favouring traditional properties that highlight the architecture of each destination. Most offer free wifi and some have a swimming pool. The normal accommodations used on this trip can be found on the day-to-day itinerary; however, below are a few of the notable places we stay. Mystras: Hotel Byzantion (night 4) The Byzantion is a family-run hotel in the centre of Mystras village. Wrapped by mountains, the property has an alpine feel, while the hotel has plenty of retro touches, such as wood-paneled ceilings and an old phone booth. Our groups particularly like to gather in the green garden, where there’s a dipping pool and shady spots where you can shelter from the sun. Pylos: Hotel Karalis (night 5) This 35-room hotel is just moments from the main town square and overlooks the Bay of Navarino. Nearby, there’s plenty to explore. The Three Admirals Square, named for the monument in its centre, has cafe seating under the shade of plane trees – an essential experience in this part of the world. Meanwhile, the hotel has a bar for post-exploration, pre-dinner drinks. Delphi: Nidimos Hotel (night 7) The Nidimos is consistently a standout hotel for our groups. There are 34 modern rooms, each with a large balcony and seating area. There’s also a light and bright bar where you can gather for post-exploration drinks – make sure to check out the views of the mountains and Bay of Itea.

Itinerary
Our adventure begins in Athens, an ancient capital soaked in myth and legend. Depending on when you land, you may have time to explore a little or perhaps dive into a taverna to sink your teeth into the much-loved local cuisine. Either way, gather at the hotel for a welcoming briefing in the evening when we meet as a group for the first time. Alternatively, if you'd like more time in this incredible city, speak to us about booking hotel nights before the adventure begins. Accommodation: Arion Hotel or Achilleas Hotel (or similar)
Embark on a walking tour of Athens this morning, taking in the Acropolis ruins and artefact-filled Acropolis Museum. This walk is a journey through the history of the city, from the classical world ruled by the Olympian deities to the 21st century. The afternoon is free for you to explore Athens on your own. Your leader can suggest where to visit. Please note: During busy periods, the walking tour might take place in the afternoon when it is quieter and the morning will be free. Accommodation: Arion Hotel or Achilleas Hotel (or similar)
Head to Nafplio after breakfast. On the way, stop at the Corinth Canal, which separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece and connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Aegean Sea. We then visit the archaeological site of Corinth, one of the major cities in antiquity and an important centre of trade. Extended excavations here have revealed a Roman forum, temples, fountains and various other monuments. Then continue to the archaeological site of Mycenae, the kingdom of Agamemnon, who led the Greeks in the Trojan war, and the most important and richest palatial centre of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Mycenae comprises a fortified acropolis and surrounding funerary and habitation sites. We then head to the picturesque town of Nafplio, where we spend the night. Accommodation: Rex Hotel (or similar)
Explore two World Heritage sites today: Ancient Tyrinth, near Nafplio, then Ancient Epidaurus. In the morning, head to the small town of Tyrintha (just 10 minutes from Nafplio) to visit the Mycenaean acropolis of Ancient Tiryns with walls that, according to legend, were built by the Cyclops. We then head to Ancient Epidaurus (approximately a 45-minute drive from Nafplio), home to the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the most famous healing centre of the Greek and Roman world. We also visit the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, the finest and most renowned of its kind, which perfectly combines acoustics with elegance and symmetrical proportions. Return to Nafplio for a delightful evening walk in the beautiful alleys of the old town. Accommodation: Rex Hotel (or similar)
Enjoy one more exploration of Nafplio with a morning visit to the hilltop Fortress of Palamidi, which stands guard over the town. It was initially fortified by the Venetians during the second Venetian occupation of the area (1686-1715). In 1715, it was captured by the Turks and remained under their control until 1822, when it was liberated by the Greeks. The most important monuments of the site are the castle, the Church of St Andrew, and the prison of Kolokotronis, a hero of the Greek Revolution. We then transfer (approximately two hours) to Mystras, the most famous medieval town in Greece. Occupying a steep foothill on the northern slopes of Mount Taygetos, the Frankish castle here was one of the first to be liberated during the War of Independence. Explore the site on foot, including several beautiful Byzantine churches, most built between the 12th and 15th centuries, the palaces of the Mystras despots, and some urban buildings. Unfortunately, the castle itself is closed for reconstruction so we are unable to go inside. Accommodation: Byzantion Hotel (or similar)
Head to Ancient Messene after breakfast, one of the finest and best restored, yet still relatively unknown, archaeological sites in Greece. Lying in a fertile valley below Mount Ithomi, the site was first inhabited during the Late Neolithic or early Bronze age. We visit the ancient theatre, the agora, and the Asclepeion. The stadium and the gymnasium are among the most impressive and well restored complexes in Ancient Messene. We then drive to the seaside town of Pylos, where we check into our hotel. Visit the Castle of Pylos in the afternoon, which hosts a fine exhibition and museum of underwater antiquities. Here we learn about underwater archaeology in Greece; how research, excavations, and preservation of the antiquities take place. Also see contents from shipwrecks found in the sea near the Peloponnese and Ionian islands. Accommodation: Hotel Karalis (or similar)
Drive to the Mycenaean Palace of Nestor after breakfast, which lies 11mi (17km) north of Pylos. It’s described in Homer’s Odyssey as the court of the hero Nestor, who took part in the voyage of the Argonauts and sent 90 ships to fight in the Trojan War. From the raised walkways and explanatory text, you get a good idea of the layout of a Mycenaean palace complex. Our next destination is Olympia (approximately a two-hour drive), where we visit Ancient Olympia, the site that hosted the first Olympic Games. Dedicated to Zeus, the father of the gods, at the confluence of two rivers, it was the most important religious and athletic site in Ancient Greece. Our exploration includes the Sanctuary of Zeus and the many buildings around it, such as an athletic premises used for the preparation and celebration of the Olympic Games, administrative buildings, and other lay buildings and monuments. Accommodation: Pelops Hotel (or similar)
After breakfast, we drive (approximately 3hr 30min to four hours) to Delphi. En route, we cross from the Peloponnese peninsula to mainland Greece and have the chance to admire the cable-stayed Rio–Antirrio Bridge, an modern masterpiece of architecture Enjoy lunch in one of the local restaurants upon arrival, before we explore the magnificent archaeological site of Delphi on foot, which was considered the place where heaven and earth met in ancient times. According to mythology, it is here two eagles sent by Zeus from the ends of the universe to find the navel of the world met. The Sanctuary of Delphi, on the slopes of Mount Parnassos, was for many centuries the cultural and religious hub and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world. At the archaeological site, we visit the Temple of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians and of the Siphnians, the ancient theatre and possibly the stadium. Accommodation: Nidimos Hotel (or similar)
You can sleep in a bit longer this morning, as you have a long day ahead! After checking out, we pass by Arachova, a picturesque town on the slopes of Mount Parnassos. Stroll around, purchase local souvenirs or enjoy a drink in one of the numerous cafes. We then depart for Athens (approximately a 2hr 30min drive). Continue to the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula to Cape Sounio, where you can enjoy lunch. We visit the fifth-century BCE Temple of Poseidon with its magnificent panoramic view of the Aegean Sea (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). This doric temple was put up during the Golden Age of Pericles during 444-400 BCE, probably by the same architect who designed the Temple of Hephaestus at the Ancient Agora, whose name is unfortunately lost. It was devoted to Poseidon, the Olympian god of the sea; inside the temple stood a 20ft (6m) bronze statue of Poseidon, surviving in parts and preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Athens. Being a seafaring state, Athens had incredible faith in Poseidon and built the temple right near the sea. Along with the Parthenon and the Temple of Aphaea, on nearby Aegina Island, Poseidon’s mighty monument completes the Sacred Triangle of antiquity. After, we transfer (approximately one hour) to Athens International Airport where our adventure ends. Alternatively, speak to us about booking extra nights in the capital after our adventure, giving you a chance to explore this history-soaked city at your own pace.

highlights of ancient Greece A trip to major sites and a good chance to cover quite a bit of the country and appreciate its natural beauty Most Inspirational Moment Too difficult to choose. seeing the Acropolis lit up at night? walking underneath the Lion Gate at Mycenae? The scale of Messene? the rock formations of Meteora? Thoughts on Group Leader I can't praise her highly enough . Often there are separate specialists for each place but Stephania knew eveything about everywhere. She was a walking encyclopaedia. Not only that, she had a lovely manner , was friendly , approachable and arranged a group meal every night if we wanted it . This was perfect for me because as a single traveller i was slightly worried about being left on my own. Advice for Potential Travellers you have to have an interest in the subect matter . I had studied prehistory and archaeology at university and had originally booked this trip in April 2020 so it was something I had longed to do. Suggestions The last day involved a very long drive and a long wait at the airport. I quite understand when you have a long journey you have to err on the side of caution and get to the airport in good time but maybe you could consider organising the trip in reverse so that the group is already in Athens on departure day. YOU MUST UPDATE THE TRIP NOTES ABOUT LONG SKIRTS NEEDED AT THE MONASTERIES, LONG TROUSERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

included more than title suggests - one of the reasons we chose it - but title sums the trip up adequately Excellent trip Most Inspirational Moment Difficult to rank such diverse and excellent experiences Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent - very enthusiastic and knowledgeable Advice for Potential Travellers There is a need to be interested in the Ancient Greece (as the title suggests) but there is also a reasonable about of 'free time' for individual exploration. Really good trip. Suggestions Our first Exodus Trip - although we have done many with Explore they are not running a comparable trip to this. We will be checking both companies in the future!

Delightful trip Great trip if you’re interested in Greek history. Sites visited cater well for visitors and museums are well set out. Countryside and scenery is lovely. Besides last day driving time each day not too long. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Nice pace to each day. Most Inspirational Moment Delphi and Meteora were pretty spectacular. Really enjoyed olive oil centre as an optional add on Thoughts on Group Leader Enthusiastic, well organised, very knowledgeable, very helpful when I needed medical help Advice for Potential Travellers All the ancient sites are on hills and uneven surfaces so if you have any knee/hip issues consider taking walking poles. If taking the return flight in evening of last day beware there are no tubes that late at night on a Sunday. Could only get to Paddington !!!!!!!!!! and no further. If making own way to joining hotel Metro is cheap and takes about 30 mins. Hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from station but good idea to have a map to hand as Google maps was not firing up. Suggestions Would consider adding an extra day to itinerary as last day is a loooong drive and evening flight proved problematic for onwards travel using public transport. Or advise clients in tripnotes that an extra night in Athens could be a good option.

Greece is the Word What a trip! Having previously only visited a couple of Greek islands, this trip truly opened my eyes to the myriad wonders of mainland Greece. A real whistle-stop tour of the country, spanning beautiful coastline and mountains. Maria, our tour guide, was enthusiastic, kind, passionate, knowledgeable and accommodating. Her content and delivery was interesting, and was positively remarked upon by the whole group. There is seemingly nothing she doesn’t know about Ancient Greece! A brilliant, potted history of some of the most iconic and important sites around Greece. For those who love history, architecture, good food and wine (and nice hot weather!), this trip is definitely for you. Most Inspirational Moment The mountain monasteries at Meteora, and Delphi, were truly awe-inspiring. Amazing to be able to get up close and personal to so many ancient sites and relics. Athens is a great city - fun, varied and interesting. Thoughts on Group Leader Maria was fantastic - a real asset to this tour. Advice for Potential Travellers Take plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable shoes. A reusable water bottle is a must - there are taps around numerous sites to fill it up, too.

A thorough and enjoyable tour Overall we would recommend this trip to anyone fit enough for the walking and ascending and descending involved. Someone who wants a basic tour with plenty of information, but not an academic tour, will enjoy this tour. The hotels were fine, and evening meals in pre-planned restaurants generally okay, though some people opted out from time to time. We felt the tour lived up to expected Exodus standards. Most Inspirational Moment In their own and separate ways, all of the sites we visited were extremely interesting. Thoughts on Group Leader Lida was excellent all round, well-prepared and enthusiastic about her subject. Gregorius was a good driver and we never felt unsafe with him. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you have stout and comfortable footwear. Suggestions We (and others) felt that the driving involved in the last visit to Meteora and back to Athens was too long a round trip including an overnight stop. While the Meteora monastery that we visited was a very interesting site, we only spent about an hour there. It is quite separate from the archaeology of the rest of the tour around ancient Greece. We would have preferred a shorter overall tour or more time spent at other sites. We were offered three optional activities - a boat trip, wine visit and olive oil visit (the latter two with lunch). We cannot see how the early evening boat trip (cancelled for lack of support) could have been fitted in, since we had no time between arrival and dinner. The others took a long time out of the middle of the day, with less than half the group participating. Dropping these and having more time at the main sites and a shorter lunch would be better. These are the sort of activities you expect on an ordinary package holiday, not a specialised tour. Overall we felt that taverna lunches were slow, rather too heavy, and took a lot of time out of the centre of the day, when we would have preferred to use the time on the site visits. The restaurant used for the evening meal at Nafplio had a poor choice of food and was expensive compared to others.

Eva the best guide to Greek History I enjoyed the entire trip. Eva, the group leader was knowledgeable, friendly, and a wonderful story teller. The group was a good size. The people in the group where fantastic. I met so many nice people. Many of group had been on other Exodus trips and they shared their experiences and suggested new adventures for me. I would like the tour to have been one day longer to see Mt Olympus and a more leisurely drive back to Athens. Overall the trip was great. Most Inspirational Moment Standing in Delphi. The view was breathtaking and there was a sense of awe at being in a place that was sacred for the people that lived here so long ago. Thoughts on Group Leader Eva was the best. I enjoyed everyday. She told great stories of Greek history. She involved everyone in the group. She set up some optional group dinners every evening. Every experience was wonderful. Advice for Potential Travellers Try everything, especially the food. Stand by yourself in the Greek ruins and imagine what life was like thousands of years ago. Go slow through the museums, there are so many wonderful art works. Suggestions I would love to take another tour of another place with everyone from my group. Everyone was wonderful and Eva was the most you could hope for in a tour guide.

Good trip with long days Covers all the expected areas and some unexpected ones. Pacing often seemed hurried but in retrospect was about right. Reasonable vehicle used with enough space, although the single seats seemed rather narrow (the seat belt connectors were recessed make the narrowness less noticeable) Lots of early starts but in most cases there was time to look around the overnight stops in daylight. The lunch stops in most cases offered options, but not all. Evening meals were of a good standard throughout. Hotels were very varied, from bunkhouse to very good. As expected the Athens hotel was the worst, tiny room, impossible to walk round the room without climbing over the bed and in a dingy sidestreet. Most Inspirational Moment Being in the Olympic Stadium ruins completely alone. Thoughts on Group Leader Very good on detail and organisation but does need to limit the static time or learn to talk and walk. Advice for Potential Travellers Ignore the advice about the water being safe, it is if you are southern European but very iffy for the north European. Came back with a water borne bug. Suggestions The start could be improved, but with flights coming in at very different times it would be difficult. There was a tension on the final day with a visit at the start of the day then a long drive back to Athens, particularly when we had already had one puncture.

An inspiring trip We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Greece . The ancient sites were interesting and brought to life by the almost forgotten stories from Greek Mythology. The museums were excellent and complemented these sites. It was not just Ancient Greece as Mystras and Meteora were amazing too especially with their locations . We drove through some beautiful countryside and alongside the blue, blue sea. A well balanced trip Most Inspirational Moment There were so many highlights but I think of all the places we visited probably Olympia was the most inspirational All those athletes in ancient Greece, many of whom travelled long distances , gathering together to compete Thoughts on Group Leader Eva was great. She was very friendly, very helpful and extremely knowledgeable She had an amazing way of bringing the places we visited to life with her tales of the ancient gods, goddesses and heroes , So much fun to have roles to play. Advice for Potential Travellers Make sure you add on a day or two extra in Athens either at the start or end of the trip Suggestions In general the pace of the trip was good but we wondered if there was someway of including Meteora without having the long drive back to Athens on the last day

Ancient Greece brought to life We had a fantastic time visiting the ancient Greek sites. It really brought to life all the stories that I’d read about the ancient civilisations. Most Inspirational Moment As a runner, visiting Olympia the home of the Olympic Games was special for me, particularly as I was able to run the length of the ancient stadium. Delphi was also spectacular with it’s site on the side of a steep hill. Thoughts on Group Leader Eva was amazing. She was really friendly and presented information on the different sites in an interesting and engaging manner. Advice for Potential Travellers Be prepared for quite a bit of travelling on the minibus, particularly on the last three days.

Sun, sea and monuments This tour was a comprehensive introduction to some of the sites of ancient Greece, but also included Mystras, a Byzantine town and Meteora, a spectacular landscape with monasteries perched on top of huge rocks. I would personally have benefitted more from what I saw if I’d read up some information in advance. Lida, the guide was excellent, and she gave a lot of useful information about the sites and the mythology and history behind the sites and the history and mythology about them. The hotels were generally good quality though the Rex Hotel in Naufplio was a little tired decor wise. The Nidimos hotel in Delphi village had the best views! There was plenty to eat, of variable quality. The restaurant for the evening meal in Pylos was not very good; the booked group table was given to others, service was glacially slow and the food uninspiring. Most Inspirational Moment Highlights were: The unexpected sites of Mystras, ancient Messene and Meteora. The small towns of Pylos and Naufplio The ferry ride from Patras back to the mainland Thoughts on Group Leader Lida was an excellent group leader, sociable, friendly and always ready to answer questions. She looked after the group very well and was very helpful. Grigoris the driver was also excellent, and drove the minibus smoothly and safely. Advice for Potential Travellers There was not a great deal of 'free time'; one afternoon in Olympia was free of any activity. We often seemed to arrive late afternoon/early evening. The last day from Meteora to Athens airport was very long, though there were stops. It is a very 'packed' tour with much to see; it was hard to take in all the information about the places visited. So maybe read up ia little n advance! It is not strictly speaking an archeological tour; the tour leader was not an expert (this is not a criticism).

A good leader makes or breaks a great trip We loved experiencing all the Classical sites on this tour of Greece. As others have mentioned, an extra night in Pylos would have been welcome, plus a visit to Nestor’s palace. We would also have loved to have seen the whole of the Delphi site. What made the whole group experience such a delight was our guide, Stefania. With a background in archaeology and art history, she brought the whole thing to life, as well as handling all the practical details so effectively. The driver was great too. Hotels and restaurants variable, as you would expect across a range of places, but overall good with friendly people. A thoroughly enjoyable trip with many Classical highlights to enjoy. Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent. Stefania is a great asset: highly skilled, cheerful and a thoroughly professional guide.

Live at the Apollo According to the group, the trip exceeded all expectations. The terrain was more difficult than expected, but this was due to the age of the heritage sights. Take walking poles just in case. The tour leader was excellent at reminding us to watch our step. Accommodation was better than expected, including a sea view in beautiful Pylos. We all wish we could’ve stayed in Pylos for an extra night. Personal highlight: Incredible experience being able to run on the track at Olympia and to stand next to the temple of Zeus.

Outstanding A simply outstanding trip. Our guide Eva was informative, friendly and helpful. A lovely small group of people made the trip very friendly and low key. All the sites we visited were just amazing. Lovely hotels, fabulous sights and sounds and awe inspiring insights into living history. Stunning. Most Inspirational Moment Walking through the corridor onto the stadium at ancient Olympia; seeing the oracle at Delphi; the Corinth canal; the theatre at Epidavros; climbing up to the Acropolis. Honestly - too many to choose ! Thoughts on Group Leader Fabulous. Eva was wonderful. Advice for Potential Travellers It’s very uneven underfoot at times - you definitely need proper walking shoes/sandals. In September it was still very hot so make sure you have a refillable water bottle. Be prepared for some days to be more strenuous than others Suggestions A day ‘off’ mid week would be welcome - maybe at Pylos or Nafplio where you could enjoy the seaside?

Don't understand question Lovely trip. Excellent guide. Mixed hotels. Most Inspirational Moment Pass Thoughts on Group Leader Excellent. V organised. V well informed about the subject of the trip. Pro active. Sensitive to clients requirements. Friendly, humorous. Well done Eva. Advice for Potential Travellers Earplugs, particularly for Athens hotels. Noise usually from other travellers. Try and find an alternative to Lakonia Hotel, Sparta. Spartan room (ha ha), v hard bed, paper thin walls. Olympic Village Hotel, I think it has a four star sign as you enter. This is a poorly maintained hotel 3* max. My room had a cracked sheet of glass covered by a safe deposit box. It would have taken 5 mins to remove it and make the area safe. I had to unplug the fridge at night it was so noisy Suggestions Day 8. Visit to Arachova - a complete and utter waste of time. Nothing to see or do. Would have preferred more time at Meteora and an additional visit to a second monastery. Most travellers on this trip didn't need two full meals a day. No need for lunchtime restaurants all the time, coffee shop would do for a snack.

A perfect introduction to the best of Mainland Greece and its Archeology with Eva our excellent guide. A perfect introduction to the best archeological sites of Ancient Greece with an excellent group leader and archaeologist, our charming “travel Mamma” Eva. Most Inspirational Moment The amazing age, state of preservation and artistic quality of the sites and artefacts in the museums. All brought to life and put into context by Eva's clear and lively descriptions and stories. Thoughts on Group Leader Eva our archaeologist and group leader was the perfect guide giving us an excellent introduction to all the sites and their place in the story of Greece. She seemed to have endless enthusiasm and energy and answered all our questions to make sure we had a clear picture of each place and its stories. She made sure we had suggestions for good places to try delicious local food in every village or town we visited. Advice for Potential Travellers If you are at all interested in Greek history and archeology book this trip now. Make sure you have non slip footwear as smooth limestone can be very slippery and there are lots of steps. Suggestions We would love to do another trip covering more of Ancient Greek history especially with a guide as good as Eva.

Whistlestop Tour! Eight days flashed past. We covered a lot of ground, but the travelling was carefully planned and broken up with site visits. Our Greek tour guide, Eva, provided valuable information about where to eat and what to do in free moments. More about her later…… The hotels were comfortable and central. The driver, Manolis, was steady and safe and the roads are much improved. Most Inspirational Moment All the sites are magical, even the Acropolis, overrun with tourists. Our favourites from the past, Delphi and Olympia were still amazing, but one of the special visits was to Eva's favourite, Ancient Messene. We'd hardly heard of it, but it's a wonderfully excavated site with a complete stadium and mausoleum- you can even see the basins that the athletes washed in. And even better, there were only half a dozen visitors apart from us! We can't decide whether to write to Mary Beard and tell her to get on out there and make a programme about it, or just let it remain a well-kept secret. Thoughts on Group Leader Eva was brilliant. We did a similar trip some years ago, where the tour leader was British and just dealt with group logistics. At each site we picked up a local guide, some of whom were better than others. Eva combined both roles with enormous energy and enthusiasm. As a Greek graduate in archaeology she guided us round the sites, answering questions, pointing out details that we would not have been aware of, ensuring that we were up to scratch with the flow of Greek history. These discussions continued whilst we travelled. At the same time she was always aware of group dynamics, wanting to make sure that all eleven of us were having a good time.. There was a lot of laughter and enjoyment! By the end of our trip she must have been exhausted! Exodus, I hope you realise what an extraordinary resource you have in her. She certainly made our eight days memorable and educational (in a very good way!) Advice for Potential Travellers Take note of the accurate title of the trip - Highlights . As travellers now in our seventies we had visited almost all the sites over the last fifty years and the purpose of the holiday, for us, was as a refresher. For this, it was a brilliant itinerary. It would also be excellent as a taster if you had no experience of the sites and wanted an overview. But don't expect to linger! Also, be aware that two sites, the Acropolis and Delphi, are steep with very uneven surfaces. Make sure your shoes are up to it.

Highlights of Ancient Greece Excellent trip covering a wonderful variety of Ancient archaeological sites in Athens and the Pelopponese. Good hotels throughout, friendly and competent guide and driver. Most Inspirational Moment This trip excelled because Elly, our archaeology guide stayed with us throughout and the depth of her knowledge was amazing. She made this trip with her explanations and dedication. Thoughts on Group Leader Lovely lady who worked constantly throughout and was very efficient in every way. Helpful and dependent. Advice for Potential Travellers The only criticism l have is that the flights at both ends of the trip made it necessary for me to book hotels at both ends in Heathrow and having to check in at 5 am does not start a holiday well. I was too tired to enjoy our first day in Athens. Suggestions I suggest that the group flights arrive in Athens on the first day afternoon and that the Athens tour takes place the following day when everyone has rested up. Also, the return flight to arrive back to UK earlier on final day.
