Your guide will peel back the many layers of the city’s history, beginning at the main square of Plaza de Armas where you’ll hear the tales of the foundation of Santiago and its turbulent past. Continue to La Moneda Palace, the home of Chile’s presidential office, where your guide will fill you in on the country’s complicated political history. From here, take the short drive to Parque Bicentenario, created in 2011 to commemorate 200 years of independence. Enjoy a free morning in Santiago. Maybe visit the Mercado Central – Santiago’s celebrated fish market. Sitting on a coastal plain between the capital and Valparaiso, Casablanca Valley is Chile’s fastest growing wine region, with rich soil and a perfect climate for chardonnay and sauvignon blanc. Visit a vineyard focused on sustainable and organic viticulture, then continue to Valparaiso, known for its brightly hued houses that spread over the hills overlooking the ocean. Your Feature Stay hotel for the next two nights dates to 1885 during the boom of the shipping port and sits in the historic heart of the city, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Decorated with works by Chilean artists it’s the perfect base from which to explore the city. Enjoy an introduction to pisco on the rooftop and take in the views.

Included Activities:

  • Casablanca Valley - Winery tour and tasting
  • Valparaiso - Rooftop pisco sours

Accommodation:

  • Hotel Casa Galos (Feature Stay) or similar (Number of Nights: 1)

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage centre in 2003, Valparaiso used to be South America’s busiest port before the opening of the Panama Canal. It has since transformed itself into Chile’s most creative city, which you'll learn more about on the walking tour today with a local guide. The hills of Cerro Concepcion and Cerro Alegre are dotted with coloured houses, cobbled streets, galleries, restaurants and shops. Later, visit the Museum of Fine Arts, housed in a beautiful art nouveau chalet. Tonight, maybe visit an iconic local restaurant credited with the invention of chorrillana. This legendary Chilean dish is made up of French fries topped with beef, eggs and fried onions.

In Mendoza, get to know the lively city with a gentle stroll around its wide, lively streets with your local leader. Technically a desert city, the extensive irrigation system here means Mendoza is remarkably green. Check out the city’s tree-lined spaces – from the sprawling Parque San Martin to Plaza Espana – and get a taste of local life along the bustling street, Peatonal Sarmiento. Head South towards wine country and your countryside boutique hotel.

Mendoza is Argentina's most significant grape-growing region, producing nearly three-quarters of the country's wine. The climate produces an excellent variety of grapes, with the region's signature being Malbec. Today, you’ll get to experience this internationally renowned wine at its source during tours and tastings at three world-class and innovative wineries, each with its own distinct style and flavour. Meet with a local wine expert and gain inside knowledge on the varieties of grapes and different production methods used at each winery, and sample award winning bottles just as spectacular as the surrounding Andes. After the tastings, settle in for a special closed-door gourmet lunch at one of the wineries. Enjoy several courses paired with wines carefully selected to bring out the flavours in the wonderful food. In the evening, maybe test your palate by attempting to pair the perfect wine with an authentic Argentine asado (barbecue-style food).

  • Mendoza - Gourmet winery lunch

Accommodation:

  • Amerian Chacras de Coria or similar (Number of Nights: 1)

In the afternoon, soak up the Argentinean capital’s mix of European and Latin culture on an orientation walk with your leader. Visit Florida Street, National Congress and the presidential palace of the Casa Rosada (Pink House) in the Plaza de Mayo. If there’s time, your group may get to visit the Obelisk as well. The evening is free to explore at your own pace. Maybe visit a tango bar, attend a football match, or find a great local eatery and set up shop.

Hop on a train to Tigre and get to know the city during a walking tour. Visit the local fruit market, follow the river along the stunning Paseo Victorica street and stop by the Tigre Art Museum to admire the European inspired building. The attention given to the trip itinerary reflects a great knowledge on the part of Intrepid. The selection of the tour leader and tour guides supports its concern about the travelers' growth of knowledge, safety, entertainment, and well-being: physical, emotional, and mental.

I just returned from an Intrepid trip to Chile and Argentina and I am ready to go on another Intrepid adventure. The trip leader, Sebastian, was excellent. The local guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The group size of 12 was perfect. Intrepid provides enough information before you go on the trip, but we also had some delightful surprises. The hotels are well selected in great locations. The meals were all excellent, and all details appeared to have been thought of in advance. I highly recommend choosing Intrepid for your group travel.

This trip is a fine combination of food and wine of the region as well as getting a deeper level of knowledge and understanding of each of the trip destinations.

Great trip except hotel in Santiago was under renovation. I would NOT do this trip if this hotel is on the itinerary. It is not fabulous as described in the itinerary.

This trip was phenomenal. A huge part of this was down to our tour leader, Valentina, who went above and beyond in her role. We were so lucky to have her show us these incredible countries with her knowledge, sense of fun and enthusiasm. It was my first time visiting South America, and I know it won’t be my last. Thank you for the trip of a lifetime!

This was our first time traveling to Chile and Argentina and we were not disappointed! The locations visited, local guides, excursions, and free time all worked together to create a truly memorable experience. Our tour leader Valentina took care of everything and could not have made a better experience for us. The food and wine were amazing and we could not have hoped for more. This trip absolutely exceeded our expectations!

Travelling with Intrepid for my first time in Chile and Argentina was a great choice, especially since I don't speak the language or know much about either of these countries. Intrepid and our local leader/guide, Valentina took care of all the little and big details like best places to stay, what to do/see/eat and the transport so all I have to do is show up. The meals that were included were great as well and gave us a chance to eat like the locals. But what I also like about Intrepid is that not all meals are included. We have to the freedom to eat wherever we wanted and with whomever (but we ended up going out with our group most of the time, lol!) We had a smaller group so this really gave us a chance to get to know everyone and bond. I came away from this trip with a better understanding of Chile and Argentina and some new friends. A total win-win all around.

I loved the variety offered from wine tasting in Mendoza to Polo Playing in Buenos Aires. The colourful Valparaiso to the mighty Iguazú Falls that we walked around, sailed under and flew over - just spectacular. So many first time experiences all wrapped up in a holiday of a lifetime.

Intrepid Travel has it's act together! Easy navigation on its website, covers every detail in planning and the level of professionalism is impressive. The tour guides were amazing and the addition of local guides was spot on. This is the way to go.

This trip was a huge disappointment in my eyes to the “premium” tag being attracted to it! The tour guides were the only thing that made it a worthwhile experience and feel that the whole trip needs to be reorganised or renamed as it didn’t hit the brief!
