Welcome to Wyoming! Your adventure begins in the historic town of Jackson, where fur trappers and frontiersmen once gathered. Surrounded by towering mountain ranges and the meandering Snake River, Jackson is your gateway to discovering Yellowstone National Park. You’ll have a group meeting at 6 pm, followed by an optional welcome dinner. After, the evening is all yours to explore the town’s nightlife. Feel free to wander the plaza or maybe head to the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for a drink with your fellow travellers.

Embark on a full day of exploring Grand Teton National Park – one of the most striking landscapes in Wyoming. The jagged peaks of the Tetons rise up from a rolling valley rich with sagebrush and alpine lakes. You might spot moose wading in the clear water and feeding on aquatic plants or pronghorn antelope roaming in small groups. Head to Jenny Lake, where you’ll be greeted by the reflection of the Tetons in the still water. Sit down to a picnic with your group as you take in the scenery. It’s up to you how you spend your time here. Maybe take it slow and soak up the scenery with an easy shoreline walk, enjoying the serene atmosphere. Or you could take an optional boat trip across the lake to get a new perspective of the Tetons from the water – once you’re on the other side, you can hike along wilderness trails. You might spot elk, beavers, black bears or even a grizzly bear, so keep your eyes peeled! Continue to the Mormon Row Historic District to see the iconic T.A. Moulton Barn with the Tetons towering behind. You’ll also visit Oxbow Bend – one of the best spots in the park for wildlife viewing. Otters, moose, bears and muskrats can often be seen in the river and on its banks. For dinner, you'll head out as a group for a western-style chuck wagon dinner at a local restaurant.

This morning, drive from Jackson to Yellowstone National Park – the crown jewel of the American national parks. Spend the day exploring with your leader, getting to know the park’s geology and ecology while having your first encounters with the local wildlife. Yellowstone was the country’s first national park – a mountain wilderness home to bears, wolves and herds of bison and elk. You’ll explore the northern loop of the park today, which takes you to the iconic Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Your first glimpse of the rapids rushing between the canyon’s pine-covered slopes is sure to be unforgettable. As you traverse the terrain on gentle hiking trails, you’ll encounter the Norris Geyser Basin. This is the hottest and oldest geyser in Yellowstone’s thermal areas. Follow the boardwalks through the basin to see the mudpots boiling and bubbling. Take your time at these scenic sites – you have three days to explore the park and fully immerse yourself in this unique landscape.

Discover more of Yellowstone National Park with your leader today. You’ll take the southern loop, arriving at Old Faithful Geyser in time to watch over 4000 gallons (15,000 litres) of boiling water spray more than 100 ft (30 m) into the air. Then, witness the startling colours of the Grand Prismatic Spring. The centre of the spring is an intense cobalt blue, which is surrounded by a ring of yellow, orange and red hues. The steam that drifts over the spring only adds to the ethereal scene – you should definitely have your camera handy today! Stroll along the boardwalk, following a path around the spring. Along the way, look out for abundant wildlife, including birdlife and moose.

Wake up super early this morning, ready for a very special last day in Yellowstone National Park. You’ll join a local wildlife spotting expert on a safari adventure in the Lamar Valley. This area is often referred to as the ‘Serengeti of North America’ due to the variety of wildlife that can be found here. Look for wolves, bison, elk and bears. You’ll arrive at dawn, when the animals are at their most active. Spend time exploring the valley, getting a closer look at the wildlife using high-powered spotting scopes. Your guide is particularly skilled in tracking the wolves that roam the valley. As you search for the animals, they will share their insights into the ecology of the Yellowstone basin. Later this afternoon, check out the Mammoth Hot Springs. This distinctive rock formation resembles a waterfall of stone, with its distinct limestone terraces. After, continue back to the hotel. Enjoy some time to rest and recharge this afternoon, then why not head out for an optional farewell dinner with your group.

This morning after breakfast, take a scenic drive back to Jackson. Watch the Idaho scenery pass you by as you follow the western edge of the Tetons and then cross the Snake River in Wyoming. This trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks over six days had the right amount of hiking and sightseeing built in plus some free time to do what we wanted. We opted for horseback riding and we highly recommend it. There was some rain one day in our trip in August but we like that over a hot or humid day. Our guide, Mike, was awesome - fun and flexible.

This was an excellent trip and we loved being there in early fall, when the summer crowds were gone, the colors were changing and it was not cold yet. The itinerary was excellent and it was nice balance of hiking, geysers, flexible time and optional activities and learning about the wildlife. Out guide was a great communicator, flexible, caring and very knowledgable. The hotels chosen were clean and excellent locations. Transportation was comfortable and driving distances were not too long, with adequate stops.

Our first experience with Intrepid to both Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons was absolutely incredible. We saw so many beautiful places and really experienced them with extensive hiking and a guide who was a true expert of the region. It doesn't seem possible that we could see so much in only 5 days and 5 nights but we did. Our group of only 12 were mostly strangers when the trip began but we felt like friends at the end. Our guide did all he could to make the trip memorable by offering us every opportunity to see and experience everything these places offered. I just can't say enough about the beauty of these places and how we felt like we truly grew to know and love it all.

We had a very enjoyable trip. Kaitlyn and other passengers were great to travel with. Van used is inadequate and if it had been full trip would have been awful. Hotels only adequate. This was Coach quality travel at a First Class price.

Fabulous trip to Jackson, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone. It was a great itinerary that included everything you would want to see, as well as a little hiking and a float trip on the Snake River. Our trip leader Tim was incredible! Knowledgeable, organized, and entertaining. I highly recommend this trip. Even if you could travel here on your own, you could never get as much out of it because you’d have to research things before hand and wouldn’t know the stories behind the sights or what you’re looking for. It’s a perfect trip during a pandemic when it’s hard to leave the US. This was always on my bucket list and a pandemic made it happen. You’ll love the geology and wildlife and it will open your eyes to a part of American history. It was my first Intrepid trip and I’ve been recommending it to friends since I got back.
